National Selection Results for 2020 New Intakes

On behalf of the Minister, Honourable NICK KUMAN, MP, and the Department for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, this publication hereby confirms that the following students, published on this official list, are selected on academic merit to a higher education institution of their choice.

We wish to congratulate all selected students on this academic achievement and the HELP studentship.

DHERST Audit Committee Quarter 2 Meeting

DHERST amongst the top 10 performing State Agencies” – Chairman Mr Jerry Wemin

The Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) is a state agency responsible for regulating the higher education sector in PNG. DHERST is 100% funded by the Government of Papua New Guinea (GoPNG). Thus, it (DHERST) is required under the Public Finance Management Act 1995, Public Finance (Management) (Amendment) Act 2016, Public Money management Regularisation Act 2017 and applicable regulations to fully account by way of reporting the overall financial performance to the Department of Finance (DoF). In compliance to this requirement, DHERST has functioning Audit Committee meetings and had two meetings as per the GoPNG Meeting Schedule for 2019 put forward by the DoF.

The DHERST Audit Committee held its second meeting on 28 June 2019. The Committee members comprise of:

  1. Chairman – Mr. Jerry Wemin (representing the Secretary of the Department of Finance;
  2. Professor Fr Jan Czuba – DHERST Secretary
  3. Christ Paul – Assistant Secretary Internal Audit & Compliance of the DoF; and
  4. Maku Kiap – Assistant Auditor General – National Department, Auditor General.

Other officials of DoF and DHERST were also asked to attend.

Audit Committee Members

In general, Internal Audit is Financial Quality Assurance. DHERST like other agencies have to account as it (DHERST) is dealing with Public Funds guided by applicable legislation PFMA, PSMA, etc. Some aspects of DHERST Internal Audit include Online Students Application and Selection, DHERST Award of Scholarship and TESAS, DHERST Database, DHERST Projects. Basically, Internal Audit ensures compliance with established systems and processes and check for any abnormalities.
