Higher Education Loan Program

Important Dates in the 2020 HELP Application Cycle:

  • May 15th - Official launching of HELP by the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Hon. James Marape, MP
  • June 30th - Application closes for HELP 1st installment undergraduate applicants
  • July: HELP installment 1 disbursed to HEIs
  • July 1st- July 20th: Applications for HELP 2nd installments will be made available
  • July 20th, 11:59pm: Second installment applications closes for vetting and processing
  • July 21st 2020: Applications for 3rd installment open
  • July 31st, 11:59pm: Third installment applications closes for vetting and processing

HELP Application Eligibility

  1. Papua New Guinean citizen
  2. Applicant is a current enrolled student at a DHERST registered HEI
  3. Applicant is a current enrolled student in a DHERST recognized HEI provider
  4. Applicant is undertaking an accredited academic program
  5. HEI has signed Higher Education Student Support Institutional Participation and Funding Agreement

Important Announcements:

On behalf of the National Government of Papua New Guinea, the DHERST wishes to formally advise that the online application for the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) will be launched on Friday, May 15th 2020. The HELP application is administered by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) on behalf of the National Government of Papua New Guinea. Subject to the Higher Education Student Support Regulations 2020, tertiary students’ can apply for GoPNG’s HELP upon receipt of their online credentials from the HEI Student Data Officer.
